the membrane of the earth's silence

The membrane of the earth's silence
Three channel synchronised dance video installation, stereo/quad channel sound
Premiere 21-22 October 2016, The Third Space Series, the Esplanade dan:s festival

Sensuous shadows inhabit the tropical mist, shifting shapes and faces. To map the way through the jungle, we derive new mythologies from the embrace of strangers - the constant cultural cross-fertilisation of Southeast Asia.

This piece revisits "The Ice Nymph" a collaboration of Madam Lim Fei Shen, Dr John Sharpley and Dr Tan Swie Hian, based on the poem of the same title by Dr Tan.  first created in 1989 on the Singapore Dance Theatre, then recreated 2007-2014  for students of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, including Benjamin, Jeremy and Sze. The piece is now revisited in a new video installation inspired by the earlier work, accompanied by a new interpretation of the score by Benjamin Boo (percussion) and Jeremy Lim (flute).
