Welcome to a space of journeys, displacement, and memory, found objects and performance fragments. The objects have their own messages – they invite you to displace and shape the landscape of the room during the performance period. We incorporate stories of our own migrations alongside texts by other displaced objects: migrants, migrant workers, refugees, belongings... journeys that are curious, poignant, sometimes painful, sometimes joyful.
Visitors are welcome to interact with the objects in the room. They are also welcome to observe! Please exercise care with both objects and people.
Biographies:
Chan Sze-Wei - Sze stepped into a dance class for a university P.E. requirement, and hasn’t stopped dancing since. After a degree in Political Science, she swapped a civil service career for dance, completing her Diploma in Dance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) and an MA in Choreography at the London Contemporary Dance School. Blending conceptual, interactive, improvisatory and cross-cultural approaches for theatres, public spaces, performance installation and film, her work is often intimate and sometimes invasively personal, reaching for social issues, identity and gender. http://www.oddpuppies.com
Sylvia Lim - Sylvia Lim is an Australian composer who is currently based in London. Her music has been performed in Europe and Australia, in venues including the Musikverein, Wigmore Hall, The Place, Milton Court and the Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki. Her music has been workshopped and/or performed by musicians including Plus-Minus Ensemble, EXAUDI, BBC Singers, Kaleidoscope Saxophone Quartet and members of the Aurora Orchestra. Sylvia is currently studying a Master of Philosophy/ Doctorate of Music in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Paul Newland, with kind support from The Guildhall School Trust. Sylvia's artistic interests often revolve around ideas of transformation, memory, disintegration or other states of incompleteness, and perception. Her music is influenced by visual art and architecture, particularly the work of Do-Ho Suh, Anya Gallaccio and Shi Jindian. http://soundcloud.com/sylvialim
Joanna Kalm –Joanna is a socially awkward penguin, who likes to create. Her practices often include choreography, thinking, moving, performing, writing / being a poet, photography (and being way too romantic). Based in Tallinn, Estonia, London, UK, and some other places, Joanna holds a BA in Choreography (Tallinn University) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Choreography (The Place, London Contemporary Dance School). https://joannakalm.wordpress.com/
Panos Chountoulidis – A London-based sonic artist from Greece, who has created sound for film and documentary, and collaborated on recent dance productions with Feet off the Ground Dance and Chan Sze-Wei. Panos recently completed a BA in Audio Production at SAE Institute London.
